How to Build a
Dinghy

The Evolution of the mv Waterfall
This is what the mvWaterfall looked like when it arrived in Anacortes, Wa.  We had
purchased it in Long Beach, Ca (this is actually a picture of the mvWaterfall II but
is essentially the same).  The hull was excessed from the navy in the early 1990's
after about twentyfive years of service.  We purchased it in 1993.  In Anacortes
the fuel tanks, water tanks and decks and cabin were built by Tom Lane.  He also
moved the engine.  The boat was named 'Waterfall' after Waterfall Resort near
Craig, Alaska where my wife and I met.
By 1994 we had taken the boat to Birch Bay, Washington and completed it.  This
involved finishing the interior, plumbing, wiring etc and rigging it as a troller for SE
Alaska.  The back deck was left as a flat deck for insulated totes instead of a fish
hold because we knew it would eventually be converted to pleasure by adding a salon
where the back deck was.  We only fished one year (1996) before converting to
pleasure but it was a great year.  It could pack a full load and you hardly noticed it
was there.
The conversion was in the orginal plans but we did not think it would be so quickly.
To convert to pleasure we removed the rigging leaving the stabilizer poles.  The
salon was added with a railing round the top and room for two dinghys..  We
enjoyed the boat cruising in the San Juan's and making trips to Alaska many
summer's until we sold the boat to Mark in 2006.
